  • Just a quick entry before I have to dash.

I started a homecare job this week.  It's for an elderly woman with the same sort of brain tumor that Senator Kennedy was just diagnosed with.  She's still gaining back some strength from being off her feet for a bit between a hospitalization and being in a Rehab center (no, she doesn't have a drinking or drug problem, lol)  But am I being simple minded when I say it's mind numbing?  Yesterday I brought a crossword puzzle book and ladies home journal with me.  I did do AM care on her and feed her but aside from encouraging some basic ROM excercises and pushing fluids there's little else I do.  And since there's no internet access for me, I wonder what else I could do.  I tried dusting but she told me to sit down, lol.

Anyone out there do homecare?  What is a suggested routine?  I'm used to 60+ people and doing meds, treatments and charting.  Should I just count my blessings that it's so easy?

  • I'd say count your blessing and just chill.  That's how it is in my job.  You have to learn to take the easy stuff in stride and not let boredom get to you, cuz in my job being bored is a good thing.  It means nobody's hung themselves, no riots, no hostage situations, no assaults, escape attempts or medical emergencies.

Relax and enjoy.  Maybe the old lady has some stories to tell.  Old people usually like to talk about stuff they've done and they often have some pretty cool stories from back in the day.  Might ask her.  Entertain the both of you.   :)

  • Ye gods, I'd go insane.  Working at the nursing home was hard enough, but at least the time zipped by from being so busy.  Still, you've got a job that's not gonna stress you too much, so enjoy that part of it.

  • Holy Moley,  I'd be glad that noone has done any of those things T.!

I'll keep finding stuff to keep busy with.  She's more frustrated with being so wiped out so easily.  Poor thing.
