  • On my way home from work I noticed an animal on the roadside.  I'm always a little sad when I see them.  It must have been a pretty horrid ending to get hit by a car or truck.  Well, this time I was kind of glad, in a way only I have been known to be happy.  It was a porcupine!  I have always wanted to experiment with making a beaded project using porcupine quills.  As I saw the little guy I thought of this being my chance.  I have seen them on the road other times, but hadn't been able to stop and pick up the carcass.  They don't have the quills on thier little feet so I was able to put him in my back deck.  My husband just shook his head and laughed at me when I got home and told him about my find, lol.  He wasn't shocked, just used to me doing wierd shit like this. ( I have been known to save brightly colored feathers from birds that have met thier maker.  )

I used a heavy leather fireplace glove to remove a lot of the longer quills.  They came off much easier than I had expected.  They stuck to the leather glove and I knocked them into a cardboard box.  I'm going to see what colors that Native Americans traditionally dyed them.  I've seen leather pouches decorated with the quills and seed beads and they were really cool.  If I actually make something of esthetic value I'll take a picture of it and show you all.

One last note, can you all say prayers for a friend of mine that had a heart attack?  She's really young and has a really complicated life going on.  I hope that this is a new beginning for her as it often is for folks her age that have these heart attacks.  Even if she doesn't feel she deserves God's love, she does.

  • What you say?

Having a job to go to on a daily basis accomplishes several things.

It gives you somewhere to go other than the couch.

It gives you a purpose and a sense of self-worth, and it also gets your parents off your back about why you haven't gotten one.

You have money to buy things that no one is going to lend you the money for anymore.

It makes your credit rating better.

It takes your mind off of feeling sorry for yourself.

Why does working work for you?

  • Haven't felt much like writing lately.  Have been wanting to take a family vacation.  Hasn't happened.

When I'm feeling more mentally creative I'll write about life.

    Hugs!!

You Are Somewhat Like Your Mom

Believe it or not, you and your mom are pretty darn similar.
It may not seem like it at times, but you and your mom have a lot of common ground.
Over time, you'll probably get closer ... especially if you emphasize the things you like about each other.

Your Job Dissatisfaction Level is 64%

Your job is a total bummer, and probably the worst job you've ever had.
Your co-workers stink. Your boss is a jerk. And your company is probably in trouble.
Think about finding a new job quickly, even if it's just a not-so-great transition job.
You've got to get out of there as quickly as you can!

You Got 14 State Capitols Correct

You may just be a very good guesser. Or you actually do remember something from elementary school!

  • Once upon a time, Susan had herself a passle of chickens. They lived happily in a semi-free range set up involving 'chicken tractors'. Well, some of the chickens went to live in Susan's freezer. The few remaining hens were left to live a life of grain and bugs and fresh water. And they were allowed to wander freely on 20+ acres. Until they sensed that the neighbor (4 acres) had landscaped around her built in pool. This excited the hens and they felt that they must scratch and dig at the neighbors efforts. While Susan slept as she worked nights. The neighbors lived out of state during the week. On the weekend they came back to the neighborhood. The woman became (understandibly) angry with Susan's freerange hens and Susan herself. Susan made ammends by providing replacement mulch and a plant or two. And also selling off her precious free range hens. Thereby giving up her supply of fresh free-range eggs.

Oh, and this was several years ago. This past weekend Susan found out that the woman tells other people about this. Susan thought that it was between them and since making fair reparations it was resolved between them. Well, apparently not. Neighbor woman has been nicknamed Running mouth bitch.

  • question of the day...

Why do you live where you live?
    Submitted by memtony.

I live where I live for a number of reasons, mainly it was because we could afford to buy a home here in Pennsylvania.  Originally I am from New Jersey and there was no way that my husband's and my salary combined would allow us to purchase a less than adequate abode.

Why we stay here is because of the open land and that we are able to have a small farm with sheep, horse and one day chickens again.

  • Some of Emma's U.K. pictures...

PICT0054  Big Ben and the Underground, it doesn't get much more British than that eh?

PICT0076  I don't know where this one was, but I like the framing and light.

PICT0110  I was assured that, Yes, it's THAT Abbey Road.

I'll have to get her to label the rest of the pictures.  There are a bunch.  She's been busy reuniting with us and the boy.

    Hugs!

  • In the last month we have been involved with the end of school year minutia.  All the kids did great!

Emma is currently in Ireland at the last days of an 11 day tour.  She is of course having a great time!

Work is still sucking like a vortex, but I'm sticking around because I HAVE to see just what happens next.

We are in the process of reconditioning our draft horse with excercise and hoof trimming.  Soon we can have him re-shoed.  The kids have been able to take rides on him and have had a blast.

We are also selling off this springs ram lambs.  They are at just the right age to be perfect as far as meat goes.  A couple are going to other farms for a life of food and sex.

Otherwise we are also making sure that my FIL stays healthy and doesn't wander off and get hurt.  He appears to be gaining weight, but is always cold.

And the never ending process of housekeeping!

  • Thanks for helping me through this!    As I think more about it I am amazed at how some people are content to remain that simple minded about new people and situations.  Especially if they don't have a mental condition (I don't think anyway...) that precludes them from learning new things.  That's scary that someone would choose to remain that way.  I think that is part of why it upset me.  How can you deal with something like that?  Why would you want to remain that uneducated and narrow minded?
